According to the dictionary a sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. This is why color guard is a sport.
In color guard, we stand at set, which includes having our feet together, our stomach sucked in, chest out, shoulder back (Up, back, down), chin up, and our eyes with pride. We also march with the band, which includes rolling our feet, keeping shoulders to the front, and also keeping your whole body still at set.
Also, we have to have lots of skill to do it. We practice (at least at my school) all school week, have football game on Fridays, and competitions on Saturdays.
We work as a team. If each person worked in different ways and no one was wiling to compromise then he show would be a disaster.
We, along with the marching band, compete against other schools/bands. We win awards and have to take pride in what we do.
And last but not least, we do what we do to entertain others.
We take great pride in what we do and to be called "cheerleader rejects", the people no other activities want, or the nobodies are very depressing. We work hard for what we do and we have lots of passion for what we do.
Not being called a sport is very upsetting. We work just as hard or harder during band camp and practice. Just like football, soccer, volleyball, or any other sport we have to work together to be successful.
