Color Guard in judged really hard. I mean it makes since but... oops... sorry let me explain. Well, color guards are judged on effect, skill, difficultly of work, and a few other things. I why I think I think it is a little unfair is that most judges think that bigger guards (no matter how good or bad they did) are better by default than smaller guards. Mostly because they say that bigger guards make a "bigger effect". Which is true, but that doesn't give much of a chance to win anything.
The guard works hard for what we and get a little to no recognition. We work hard and are very dedicated and it gets very upsetting when your band wins marching, music, drum major, general effect, and drum-line.
As a freshman in marching band (or you reader that aren't in marching band/color guard, my first year) my color guard won first place color guard in our division (or our size of band) with only two of the three original girls being there. It was the color guard captain (a color guard captain is a person that has the most experience or has the best skill and has leadership skills to help/teach/or control the rest of the guard) and me. It was our last competitive show of that season. We were both thrilled. It was one of the best parts of the season.
I am worried about not doing as well this season because they are not catching on as fast as we usually do. And also the fact that what the color guard does effects the band just as mush as they do.
